Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments and is how we join the Church and Christian community. It is also the first of the three sacraments of initiation. Baptism has two processes: one for children and one for adults (OCIA - Order of Christian Initiation).
Child's Baptism:
If you have a child who needs to be baptized, please call the office at 806-771-2673 to arrange a meeting with our priest. After meeting with our priest, you can request the paperwork and forms needed to begin the process. Once those forms are completed and returned to the office, parents and godparents can register for one of our once-a-month baptismal classes. Once parents and Godparents have completed a class, parents can request a date for their child's baptism on the church calendar. We know this is a long process, but we appreciate your patience and dedication in making sure this sacrament is kept sacred!
Adult's Baptism:
Reconciliation
The sacrament of reconciliation, also known as the sacrament of penance, is one of the two sacraments of healing. In this sacrament, we bring our sins before God in the person of the priest, confess them, apologize for them, and atone for them. Baptized persons usually make their first confession just before their first communion.
St. John the Baptist offers reconciliation every Saturday at 4 pm or by appointment.
Child's First Reconciliation:
Children participating in our second-grade youth faith formation classes are prepared to receive this sacrament at the end of the spring semester. Completing the second-grade faith formation year is also the first step in preparing for the sacrament of first Holy Communion.
Our youth faith formation classes run from September to April. Follow this link for more information: Youth Faith Formation Website
(Please note: We encourage all children to participate in faith formation classes by Kindergarten.)
Adult's First Reconciliation:
Holy Communion
The Eucharist is one of the three sacraments of initiation. As St. Pope John Paul II said, "The Eucharist is the source and the summit of our faith." As Catholics, we believe that Jesus meant what He said when He told us it is His Body and Blood. We believe that when we receive the Eucharist, we receive the fullness of His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
Children’s 1st Communion:
After children have completed our second-grade youth faith formation classes, they can receive the sacrament of first Communion following their third-grade formation class. We have resources for children past third grade to help them complete their sacraments.
Our youth faith formation classes run from September to April. Follow this link for more information: Youth Faith Formation Website
Adult’s First Communion:
Adults needing the sacrament of first Communion go through the process of the Order of Christian Initiation (also known as Journey of Faith). OCIA classes allow adults to learn more about the Catholic faith and complete all their sacraments. These classes run from September to Easter each year. Follow this link for more information: OCIA - Journey of Faith
Confirmation
The sacrament of confirmation is the second sacrament of initiation, celebrated after baptism. It is the sacrament by which we are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Youth's Confirmation:
Youth can receive this sacrament after participating in a two-year program through our youth faith formation classes. Our program is in the process of transitioning to a two-year program that starts in 7th grade.
The first year of preparation for the 2024-2025 school year is 7th and 8th grade. The second year is 9th and 10th grade.
Our youth faith formation classes run from September to April. Follow this link for more information: Youth Faith Formation Website
Adult's Confirmation:
Marriage
The sacrament of matrimony, or marriage, is one of the two sacraments of service (along with holy orders). In this sacrament, a bride and groom must be freely willing to commit to each other and God.
St. John the Baptist is excited to help and encourage parishioners who are planning to get married in the church. Please call the parish office at 806-771-2673 to schedule an appointment with our priest.
You will need to complete this appointment before scheduling your wedding date or making any venue deposits.
It is best to call at least six months in advance of your preferred date. In the case of any previous marriages of the bride or groom, no plans should be made before consulting our priest or deacon.
Holy Orders
Holy orders are the sacrament by which a man is ordained into the diaconate or priesthood. It is one of the sacraments of service. We encourage young men to go to the seminary if they discern that they might have a call to the priesthood.
Young ladies discerning religious life are encouraged to meet with our priest or someone in the Diocese.
